With the news that Galaxy Z Fold 3 or Flip 3 is now being launched in the UAE and South Korea, one can justifiably ask which is the right choice to buy. In a review, I have argued both theories including the swap function.
With both hinge phones, the screen can be swapped even without altering the actual device, which I would love in the long run. But if you don’t always want a side door to get your screen, which is what the Flip 3’s flap achieves, then you will surely prefer the wider screen of Z Fold 3.
But to understand which device is better for you, there are other points to consider besides screen size. One of these includes how much processor power both phones can handle and the performance of the machines. Let’s start first with the CPU. Both are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Series and both get similar performance. Z Fold 3 may run at a slower speed at first glance, but this is mainly due to its larger screen space. The Flip 3’s phone controller is not usually used for gaming, a feature that has a lot of advantages for Android phones. The Flip 3 requires you to manually adjust the screen size, which is counterintuitive in the first place. Either phone is likely to run a single-core processor at the ideal level, so it depends on how you plan to use the machine.

The second area to consider is storage. Samsung has included a Secure Folder to protect precious documents. Not sure if this will be anything like Apple’s True Knox or not, but I’d say most users are planning on giving a lot of sensitive documents to this place. In this case, I see two choices. Firstly, you can make sure that only this area is compromised by offering 30GB of storage, which is a small proportion of the total storage. Even if you choose this option, you won’t be able to store the same files as you would on a smartphone. But there is another possibility. You could set aside space for files that you really need and leave the rest in a secure space. That would mean you can save a lot of space. But the downside of this option is you can’t access the documents in the safe anytime you want.
All in all, I think the Flip 3 is an easy option. As a side door, it may also increase the size and consequently the overall width of the device. It also weighs more and is larger as compared to Z Fold 3. Moreover, you can technically start working on Flip 3 right away, which means you don’t have to wait for two weeks to get a phone. And even the protective flap is adjustable and reduces the noise and emissions of the phone. It’s worth noting that Z Fold 3 is waterproof.
If you value variety and size overpower, then I’d say Flip 3 has the edge on Fold 3. But if you’re a data-driven user then you will find that Z Fold 3 has a whole array of settings to make your life easier. In other words, for those who want to work on more than one part of the phone at the same time and don’t mind great cameras or very large phones, then there is no better option.
The last question is the price. Both phones will cost the same either way, but Z Fold 3 costs an extra $1000 and Flip 3 for $100. So this might be another factor you decide on.
THANKS FOR VISITING!
